In addition to variety selection, special attention should be paid to training and pruning. These factors have a significant impact on the health and yield of the plants. Autumn raspberries are harvested from August to October.
Option 1: One Harvest a Year
These raspberry varieties bear fruit on their first-year canes. The young canes of these autumn-fruiting raspberries are trained in spring and produce their first harvest in autumn. For winter dormancy, all canes are cut back to ground level, thus encouraging an autumn harvest the following year.
Standard varieties of autumn raspberries
Variant II: Two Harvests a Year
In this cultivation method, new canes are trained in the spring and produce the first fruit in the autumn. After harvesting, the canes are cut below the last flower cluster. These canes are overwintered on site and can be harvested again the following spring. The harvest can usually take place about two weeks before the summer raspberries. At the same time, new canes are trained, which are ready to bear fruit again in the autumn of the same year. After the third harvest, replanting the raspberries is recommended. This cultivation method also recommends growing them in substrate, under rain covers, or in tunnels.
Polka Raspberry Variety
The hardy autumn raspberry Polka is a robust plant with easy-care characteristics. Polka boasts a high yield. The berries are medium to dark red and impress with their excellent aroma. The fruit is very large, conical, and firm. This autumn variety ripens from approximately the beginning of September to October. The berries have a long shelf life and are easy to pick. The shrub-like plant is winter-hardy, very robust, and its late flowering makes it less susceptible to disease. The late-ripening Polka produces fruit even on one-year-old canes and can therefore be pruned back completely in autumn without any problems.

This autumn raspberry ripens from approximately the beginning of August to October. The plant is winter-hardy and resistant to common diseases.
