Before planting raspberries in a tunnel, careful soil preparation is essential, and it should be decided whether the raspberry plants will be grown in substrate or in the ground.
When planting the canes, the planting hole should be twice the size of the root ball.
To simplify pruning and maintenance, summer and autumn raspberries should not be planted directly next to each other.
Planting Requirements for Plugplants
To ensure sufficient growth, a planting distance of six plants per meter is recommended for plugplants. The row spacing may vary depending on the machinery used.
- Row spacing of approx. 2.5 m = approx. 24,000 plants/ha
- Row spacing of approx. 3.0 m = approx. 20,000 plants/ha
- Row spacing of approx. 3.5 m = approx. 17,200 plants/ha
- Row spacing of approx. 4.0 m = approx. 15,000 plants/ha

For long cane plants, six canes per meter are recommended. This corresponds to three pots with two rods per meter.
Planting Requirements for Canes
The plants are planted in a single row, with a spacing of approximately 40-50 cm within the row, and a row spacing of approximately 3.00 m to 3.50 m. Depending on the training system, the planting requirement is 8,000-12,000 plants per hectare.
The planting direction should ideally be north-south. To prevent premature harvesting, it is recommended to prune the canes back to 20-30 cm after planting.
