Robust Early-Ripening Strawberry Variety
The Red Makalu strawberry variety is in the same early ripening range as Clery. Its skin is an attractive red with a beautiful sheen. The berries have a good storage life, are appealingly conical in shape, and are a very good size. Red Makalu offers good to very good yields in the early season (sometimes even more than Clery) with good picking efficiency. The plant is generally vigorous; however, calcium deficiency and overwatering should be strictly avoided during cultivation. We have been testing this variety on our farm for two years and consider it a valuable addition to the early harvest range.
